A Note to Sarah: How’s Hong Kong (two weeks later)

August 27, 2007

Sarah-
Fortunately, the world truly is not flat, and I have not fallen off of the face of the earth – though my poor communication might have indicated this as being the case, and I’m sure all the rumors around the BAR are to the effect of having forsaken the club.
That just simply is not the case.

I’ve been in Hong Kong now for about two weeks, to the hour almost, and things are rolling along. I have my small-cramped-glorified-hole-under-the- staircase dorm room, which would be fine were it not intended for two people; however, we shall make it work. It is nice enough right now, because tenant numero dos has yet to arrive.

I will be keeping everyone posted on my adventures. I have a few in the bag right now, but need to get my ass in gear and type them up. I have started a blog, however I feel it would be horribly irresponsible of me to start passing out the name when I have done nothing to give it content or any interest. I’m used to just sending out 10 page emails ever 3 weeks or so, and this whole blog thing has required quite the bit of learning on my part: and pacing! I’m hoping to get at least three decent adventures up there by the end of this week, throw up some photos, and then get into the swing of things and hit out at least a post a week; but, we shall see.

Classes begin on the 4th, just after labor day weekend: the irony is that Hong Kong does not celebrate Labor Day. But in this vain, when I run a country, or small plot of land, I will plan on celebrating holidays of all nations, sometimes twice in the same day. I can’t wait for the giant dump truck to show up for my Tomatina festival! My neighbors will love me!

I’m enjoying this email: it may turn into the first post on the blog. I feel it embodies a certain feeling of being here and the craziness of living life from my head. Tonight I’m supposedly going out with a bunch of ‘exchange-ins’ to some downtown bars, dancing, etc. If that doesn’t happen, a large beer, large bar of chocolate, and three or four hours could get the blog going.

Alright – enough for now. Battery’s running low, and the rambling is petering out. Sorry for the poor correspondence, but it shall improve.
TTFN
~Michael
