Forecast: New Jay Leno Show

Tonight Jay Leno’s new 10pm show will begin on NBC. Lots of marketing has been thrown out for the opening week, and lots of musings and predictions abound. Here’s my pre-show thoughts on what we might see.

My Predictions: The show will be the same as his old show. Smaller set, he’ll parade out one guest, one music/variety act, and open with a monologue of his choosing and similar silly bits like his weird signs and odd newspaper stories. Not a big stretch from his old show, but he’ll be competing against local news programs and reruns of Law&Order, CSI, NCIS, SVU, and the whatnot so it’s not a big stretch for him to find an audience. It will cater to the same audience he held during the Tonight show, which now goes to bed significantly earlier in the evening.

My Hope: Some of the hype that surrounds how funny his stand-up comedy will seep into the show and actually be entertaining. I’ll give it a shot tonight and post up my reaction following the premier tonight.
